This track was constructed by some old loops I had in my archives. I pretty much trimmed a great breakbeat and some nice melodic strings. I then flanged and reverbed the heck out of the strings. Left the breaking as it is and used a simple string synth on the hook. After that, I placed some real smooth low-toned 808's under the gumbo.
When I'm producing tracks, I am also naming them for what I would like the song to be called when I write to them. when you're constructing Instrumentals, you are constructing a vessel. A vessel which will embody the spirit of the whole idea.
Before the artist writes to a particular Instrumental, it already has a body. This is why certain artist gravitate to certain beats. It resonates with their innermost being. If the beings are a match a song will be created. breathing the words into the mic is in essence the equivalent of the very air we breath that gives us life.
The beat for me was just that FLY, very Tribal, very Southern, and of course the Lounge attributes. I proceeded to write up the flyest rhymes I could conjure. Using a plethora of punch lines and no gimmicks. The hook was simply "So Fly", choppy like, u know, cut throat!!
